He may not be downing it before he takes to the stage tonight – but he will definitely be dancing to it.
Sheffield’s Strictly Come Dancing star Michael Vaughan has revealed he will be performing a sexy samba on tonight’s show, dancing to the song Tequila.
The former England cricket captain, from Baslow, who has wowed the audience with his ballroom routines over the current series, said : “I’m going to be bringing a party to the studio this week – I’m dancing a Brazilian samba and it’s going to be a Rio carnival atmosphere.
“We’re dancing to Tequila – I like the song but not the drink - although I might have something else before I go on stage to calm the nerves.”
Vaughan said he and professional partner Natalie Lowe had trained for 40 hours this week.
He said: “I’ve had the best week of training yet. It’s been quite technical, quite hard, but I love the Latin weeks, they’re a lot more fun, so I hope I can nail it tonight.
“We know we aren’t going to be at the top of the leaderboard, so we are relying on the public’s support.
“I’m still really enjoying it and I’d love to stay in the competition for longer, but ultimately that’s for the public to decide.”
And the 38-year-old sent a messaage to fans in his home city, saying: “Please get on the phone and keep me in – let’s get a Sheffield lad into the final.
“I know I’m not as good as people like Denise Van Outen. The standard this year is so high and there are some real movers, so I’m just going to keep smiling, doing what I’m doing and enjoy myself.”
Vaughan said four-time Australian dance champion Natalie was the reason he had got so far in the competition.
He said: “She is a great teacher and she deserves a lot of credit for getting me this far.
“She’s wonderful to work with. You dance for your partner really. You don’t want to let her down.
“You know the judges are going to give you some stick so you’re not nervous about that, your nerves are for your partner and you just want to do the best you can.”
