A Sheffield climber with a passion for the Peak District has launched a book celebrating its finest gritstone crags.

True Grit is the latest publication by Pete O’Donovan, who has been exploring the National Park for more than 40 years.

Aimed at technically competent climbers, True Grit covers 4,000 routes on major peak gritstone crags, including Kinder Scout.

The book combines photography with detailed maps, graphical representations of the climbing route and GPS co-ordinates.

Pete, who also founded the Podsacs rucksack brand, said: “The Peak District is an amazing natural resource for outdoor sports. I wanted to combine my interests in climbing and photography to capture the beauty of the area and share my knowledge of the wide variety of routes available. Gritstone was my first love and remains dear to my heart – this book aims to inspire those feelings in others.”

The climber grew up in Woodseats and divides his time between Sheffield and Catalonia in Spain, the location for his first two guidebooks.

True Grit is available through major bookshops, as well as specialist outlets including Outside in Hathersage and Hitch ‘n’ Hike in Bamford.
