An endangered bar game that was revived in Sheffield earlier this year has become so popular that the number of facilities has almost doubled.
Landlords at The Cross Scythes in Norton Lees started their efforts to save bar billiards in January, as they had one of only three tables left in the city.
They joined forces with The Gardeners Rest in Neepsend and the New Barrack Tavern in Hillsborough to host regular tournaments of the traditional pub game.
Now there are five bar billiards tables in the city, with new facilities at the Steelers Bar in Intake, Chesterfield and Chapeltown.
And the York bar billiards league team is visiting the Cross Scythes on Saturday December 6 for a full day’s competition.
Steve Kier, who runs the pub with wife Rebecca, said: “The game is certainly becoming a hit, more and more people are starting to become involved.”
