HOMEGROWN Hollywood talent Sean Bean is leading a campaign to encourage more people to join the fight against cancer this year.
The Sheffield-born screen star has thrown his weight behind Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity’s latest fundraising appeal, which asks people to make pledges on a virtual wall on its website to help vital funds to support research, treatment and care at Weston Park Hospital.
Fresh from being named a patron of the organisation, Sean has posed for a photograph which is one of the first to feature on the wall, offering his pledge for 2013.
Helen Gentle, fundraiser at the cancer charity said: “I would urge others to follow his example by making their own New Year pledge. It’s a great time of year to take up a fresh challenge such as running, walking, cycling, volunteering or organising your own event.
“There are lots of other ways you can get involved, to achieve a personal goal and at the same time help raise funds to keep more families in this area together for longer.”
Sean said: “I am delighted to be a patron for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity. Cancer affects us all at some point, so it is good to know that there is a world-renowned specialist cancer hospital in this region.”
