WELCOME to Sheffield’s scooter central – boasting a Sixties-style scene that’s sure to be the place for the city’s ace faces.

This Sunday sees the launch of the Okeh Cafe on Abbeydale Road – with more than 150 scooterists expected to join the party. It’s the brainchild of Russ Sutton and Chris Lee, who have been fans of Lambrettas and Vespas since they were in their teens, more than 40 years ago.

Memories of the mod era will flood back thanks to the cafe’s formica tables, leatherette booths and a rare 1959 Rock-ola jukebox playing Tamla Motown, Northern Soul, ska and r’n’b.

Russ said: “We are two Sheffield lads who, having been on a ride out with 70-plus fellow scooterists, decided it was time to open a meeting place for our mobile mates.

“What better way to turn the clock back to the times when you could grab a cappuccino in coffee bars and milk bars while listening to a great selection of tunes on the jukebox?”
