WOODHOUSE Salvation Army has been awarded a £5,000 grant for its youth work.

The Sheffield Homes Grant will allow the Salvation Army’s youth club to buy a new pool table, table tennis equipment and Wii console.

Youth worker Andrew Watson said the cash will also help his outreach work with pregnant teenagers and bored school children who often hang around street corners and sometimes cause concern in the community.

Andrew added: “We are already working in partnership with organisations such as Activity Sheffield, the Community Forum, Sheffield Futures and Children’s Centre as well as the local Police Community Support Officers with whom we have established a good working relationship.”
