Musician Russell Dennett is giving Dronfield’s live scene a welcome boost after opening his first venue in the town.

Russell, who played with the Human League for nine years and who has been in a number of other bands, has opened JD’s Lounge, a music bar on High Street.

The 49-year-old guitarist has created a wall of pictures and memorabilia of stars from the Sheffield and North Derbyshire area to give added atmosphere.

“I’m pretty new to this but I hope JD’s will become the hub of the Dronfield music scene,” Russ said.

“We’re looking to put on gigs featuring live music from some of the area’s finest musicians as well as open mic nights too.”

Russell played with the Human League in the 1980s and early 1990s, with his work featuring on the albums Romantic? and Octopus.

He also toured Japan, the US and Europe with the band.
