Rock Radio rolls into Yorkshire

RADIO bosses will hit the right notes with rock fans when a new station is broadcast in the region this weekend.

GMG Radio will extend its Rock Radio brand to include Yorkshire and South Wales/Severn Estuary.

The classic rock music station will begin broadcasting programmes on digital radio from Saturday, October 9.

Rock Radio already broadcasts in Glasgow and Manchester on FM and the north east of England and across Central Scotland on digital radio.

The extension of the Rock brand via the MXR digital radio multiplexes is enabled by the group using the space occupied by Smooth Radio on the platforms.

Following its national launch this week, Smooth Radio is available both on national digital radio and FM in these regions.

The new regions will receive a simulcast of Rock Radio in Manchester and in time will be interspersed with local commercial breaks.

Rock Radio brand Managing Director Billy Anderson said:"Rock Radio has a passionate following of loyal listeners and we're delighted to be able to extend it into new regions of the UK."
