Slumming it in Sheffield is a far cry from Sloane Square, as one rich kid discovered during a visit to the city.

Jamie Laing, heir to the McVities fortune and star of reality TV series Made in Chelsea, learned all about life on the breadline in a special episode of Famous, Rich And Hungry, due to be broadcast on BBC One for Sport Relief.

After staying with a single dad who estimates his family are living on a daily food budget of just £1.16 per person per day, he visited St Wilfrid’s Centre for the homeless and socially excluded on Queen’s Road.

Kevin Bradley, St Wilfrid’s director, said: “I knew he was a celebrity, but I’d never seen the programme. The others got all excited about it.

“He was a nice lad, I fetched him fish and chips and he ate them up. He was amazed at the place and the problems that exist.”

n Famous, Rich and Hungry will be shown on BBC One tonight, at 9pm.
