“He painted this picture as an auction item for our Help For Heroes Day when he called in at our Yorkshire studio to promote his new single, Run For Your Life and forthcoming album, Letter. It’s a money-can’t buy one off,’’ said a station spokesman.

GMG Radio Group Programme Director John Simons said: “To meet many of the injured service men and women that receive help and support from Help for Heroes is a very humbling experience. This is a very poignant time when we have all been thinking about the war on terror, and listeners to our Real and Smooth stations across the UK have shown amazing support for Help for Heroes, so we are delighted to be raising money for them again.”

In addition to the auction, accessed via www.realradio.co.uk listeners and supporters will be able to text £5 donations to 70900.

Real Radio Yorkshire is attracting more adult listeners than any time in the last four years, with 360,000 adult listeners tuning in every week, up 62,000 on last year, according to industry figures release by RAJAR.

Steve South, Managing Director of Real Radio Yorkshire said; “In an increasingly tough and heavily populated market place we are delighted to be showing such growth as others falter. The Real Radio Breakfast Show with Dixie and Gayle remains the flagship show.”
