Dearne Valley Ramblers, SUN 23 JULY. Meadowhall to Sheffield City Centre. Another chance to walk a section of the South Yorkshire Way!? This section of the SYW takes us through the Tinsley Industrial Landscape and urban estates to the ruins of Sheffield’s Manor Castle, through Norfolk Heritage Park into Sheffield City Centre. Taking in woodlands and parks on our way. Coffee stop in High Hazels Park, lunch stop at Manor Castle before heading into Sheffield. Starting point: Meadowhall Oasis Car Park outside ‘Oasis Dining Quarter’. Park in Orange Zone. As this is a linear walk we will be returning by tram from Sheffield to the cars parked at Meadowhall. Walk from Cusworth village via Cusworth hall, across fields to Sprotbrough, down to Sprotbrough Lock and along river bank towards Doncaster. Leave footpath at Newton Village and shortly joining the TPT for short distance before heading back to Cusworth Village. At the end of the walk, all are invited back to the garden of the walk leaders for drinks and snacks, weather permitting. Sadly, this invitation cannot be extended to doggies. Salter Hills, Ewden Heights, Candlerush Edge, Langsett, Uskers, Unsliven Bridge 11.5 miles circular, moderate. No dogs. Tues 25th July - 10:00am Meet at Arundel Gate. Interchange to catch a 1 or 1a to High Green, SK355872. Walk starts 10:50. This walk from High Green passes Thorncliffe Pond on the way to Wortley Park. After lunch in Wortley village at the halfway point we complete the circuit along a high route with superb views 7.2 miles circular, intermediate. No dogs.

SUMMER WALKS BY TRAIN, Walkers are being invited to discover the South and West Yorkshire countryside using public transport over the summer on a series of eleven railway rambles with the Penistone Line Partnership. Most walks follow public rights of way between stations along the Penistone Line linking Sheffield, Barnsley, Penistone and Huddersfield and all are accessible by departing from SHEFFIELD and MEADOWHALL stations on Saturdays.
