A South Yorkshire community radio station has been given a five-year extension to its licence, keeping it on the air until 2019.

Penistone FM 95.7 was launched in 2009 and it broadcasts regular programmes and specialist music shows seven days a week.

Most of its presenters live in the area and the station has recently trained 100 young people on its Youth Radio Skills taster courses.

It has 50 volunteers keeping it on air, with live broadcasts for over 100 hours a week. A new training studio is due to open in the new year.

Station director Martin Sugden said the licence renewal was fantastic news.

“We’ve had a great five years and could not have done it without the hard work and dedication of volunteers and directors both past and present,” he added.
