A new radio station aimed at Sheffield and Rotherham’s Muslim communities has started broadcasting.
The community station, called IMAN FM, will broadcast shows on FM 103.1 in 10 different languages, including English, Urdu, Punjabi, Pothwari, Arabic, Bengali, Somali, Pashto and Turkish.
It is aimed primarily at the region’s 50,000 Muslims, but also wants to appeal to the wider community.
Shows planned for the station, which is based in Attercliffe, include phone-ins and music programmes.
Station chief executive Shabbir Mughal said: “The purpose of delivering these programmes in a wide range of languages is to bring all the communities together, create awareness and cohesion.”
