A massive celebration, featuring acrobats, dancers, stalls, food and the odd dragon will turn the venue into a mini Far East.

“It promises to be full of unforgettable moments,” says Jerry Cheung, chairman of the Sheffield Chinese New Year Celebration Joint Committee.

Performers will include the highly-regarded Gansu Provincial Ensemble, who will be travelling especially from North West China, and the Sheffield Chinese Children and Women group, who will be travelling not quite as far from across town.

The show marks the start of the Year of the Rabbit - which means expectant mothers can look forward to their offsprings being virtuous, reserved, and admired.

“Children born in the year of the Rabbit are also said to have excellent taste,” says Jerry, owner of the Simply Chinese restaurant in Dronfield. “So hopefully our show will live up to that.”

The Chinese year runs February 3 - January 22, 2012 but the show takes place February 7.

Doors 5pm, performance 7 - 9pm.
