One of Barnsley’s biggest school musical events of the year will take place later this month.

More than 1,500 young musicians from 28 schools will perform at Elsecar Heritage Centre on Saturday and Sunday, June 27 and 28, at 10.30am and 1.30pm each day.

All performers have been learning to play instruments, or sing as a whole class, since September, through projects delivered by teachers from Barnsley Music Service, which provides instrumental and vocal music tuition in schools throughout the borough.

John Ingman, wider opportunities coordinator for Barnsley Music Service, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to play in a large-scale, prestigious event so early on in their musical life.”

Tickets will be available on the door, priced £2.
