STRIKING recycling centre workers took their fight against cuts to hours and jobs to a full meeting of Sheffield Council.
The GMB trade union members presented a 100-signature petition against the changes, which have seen opening at the five sites in Sheffield reduced and five jobs lost.
But Labour leader Coun Julie Dore refused a debate on the issue saying the matter would be discussed in detail at a later meeting of a council scrutiny board instead.
Green Central ward councillor Jillian Creasy, who opposes the cuts, said: “Labour has stifled debate on this important issue.”
Lib Dems also criticised the decision not to debate the recycling centre cuts. Labour said there is no alternative.
