Pride Festival needs helpers

ORGANISERS of Sheffield Pride have appealed for more volunteers next year – after Saturday’s event attracted 6,000 people even in the rain.

The event started at 11am with a parade down Ecclesall Road featuring huge floats, a samba, brass bands and more than 400 people giving the parade a carnival feel.

The main in event in Endcliffe Park then included live bands, a cabaret tent, a dance stage, a fun fair, side shows and information from groups supporting the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

Kath Housley, chair of Sheffield Pride, said: “It was fabulous – so many people came despite the rain and all of them had a great time.”

But she added: “It’s been hard work from the volunteer organising committee to get the event to be this good – next year we need much more help!”
