The 20th International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival continues for another week and one of the highlights this weekend is one of the pair’s best-loved shows.
Lyric Opera Productions from Ireland bring two outstanding new productions of HMS Pinafore and The Mikado. The Mikado is on tomorrow, Friday, and Saturday and Pinafore is on Sunday.
This year the festival celebrates its 20th birthday with its biggest and most ambitious programme to date. Fifty three full-scale performances will take place in the magnificent setting of Buxton Opera House and the adjoining Pavilion Arts Centre with an additional 50 fringe events.
Each weekday evening there will be a performance from a different society competing to win the prestigious International Festival Trophy.
Each weekend visitors have the opportunity of seeing some of the very best professional Gilbert & Sullivan staged in the world.
Around 500 performers from 10 universities will compete in the UNIFest programme running in the Pavilion Arts Centre.
A three-day event called the Magic of Gilbert & Sullivan, running until tomorrow, welcomes speakers from around the world.
