WHAT a plum idea - bringing people together over jam.
It seems the foodies who brought Sheffield the Sharrow Pie Experiment are now trying to preserve those community links through...well, preservatives.
St Mary’s Community Centre ran the pie scheme - previously featured in The Diary - to encourage neighbourly relations over a slice of dessert.
But when the funding (and, therefore, the custard) ran dry, they decided instead to offer the chance for volunteers to come together to make jam and friends.
And the verdict from the first session this week? Tasty jam and tasty new mates.
“The session was fantastic with a hugely diverse group of people getting involved,” she Jo Watts, development manager at the Bramall Lane complex. “The result was waste food being used to make something good and several people making good use of their time and making new friends.”
There’s nothing jarring about that.
