A long-serving member of staff at a Sheffield leisure centre has heaped praise on the venue as it celebrates its 40th anniversary.

The 50-year-old, who first walked through the sport centre’s doors as a gymnast at 11, said: “Concord Sports Centre is like a second home to me.”

She started working at Concord in 1983 as a part-time leisure assistant and lifeguard.

Catherine she also delivered a number of gymnastics, trampolining and keep fit classes after gaining qualifications with the British Gymnastics Association and British Trampoline Federation.

A promotion to facility officer in 1990 soon followed and she was promoted to front office manager in 2003, HR manager in 2011 and corporate HR manager in 2014.

Catherine, from Killamarsh, said: “Concord has hosted many international events, and in recent times we have diversified into different markets with the best example of this being our hugely successful GP referral scheme which has changed the lives of thousands in the city.”
