TELEVISION producers have been asked to hand unedited footage of an illegal horse race over to police.

Officers are making inquiries after footage of travellers racing on a public road near Moorends was shown on the programme My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.

They want to use the material to decide whether to press charges.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Officers have asked for unedited footage from the programme to determine whether sufficient evidence exists to pursue a prosecution.”

Clips shown on the Channel Four programme depicted horse and trap riders swerving out of the way of oncoming vehicles on the road.

Police were also shown arriving at the scene after complaints were received.
