Two Sheffield photographers who have captured industry in the city have been shortlisted for the finals of a national contest.

Ian Spooner and Alan Burke have been invited to the Houses of Parliament for the EEF Photography Awards, which celebrate the best of British design and manufacturing.

Ian is shortlisted in the professional category for his picture of a steel ingot casting at Sheffield Forgemasters.

Alan is in the frame in the amateur category for his two images of a mill being heat treated and a component with cutting sections.

The awards, sponsored by Canon, Lombard and the ERA Foundation, aim to showcase how vibrant, modern and expansive British manufacturing is today.

The pair’s images will be exhibited in the Commons as part of 77 shortlisted entries from around the country on Monday, December 9.

An overall winner from each of the four entry groups will be awarded a share of £5,000.

Barrie Street, for Canon, said: “We have been impressed by the array of entries submitted for the awards. The entrants have succeeded in bringing Britain’s manufacturing industry to life using the power of image.

“We wish Ian, Alan and all of the shortlisted entries the best of luck.”
