COMMUNITY police officers got into the party spirit when they led a parade at an annual carnival in Rotherham.

PCSOs Julie Jackson and Suzanne Ellis, from the Brinsworth Safer Neighbourhood Team, were on duty at the Aston Carnival when they were asked to lead the procession.

The colourful parade began at Swallownest Primary School, and announced the start of the festival which featured kids’ activities and a host of stalls.

PCSO Ellis said: “We thoroughly enjoyed spending our time interacting with members of the community that we don’t ordinarily come into contact with.

“We were on hand to answer any questions and have general conversations with members of the public.

“We had a lovely time and hope our presence was key in ensuring people felt safe at the carnival.”
