police patrols have been stepped up in a South Yorkshire community following an increase in break-ins on allotments and small holdings.
Officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Team in Cudworth, Barnsley, have also contacted allotment holders to encourage them to form a network to keep in touch with each other and pass on information.
The network includes representatives from School Street and Lister Row in Great Houghton, Belle Green Lane and Robert Street in Cudworth, Harry Road in Gawber, Darton Street in Mapplewell and Ardsley and Cresswell Street in the town centre.
PCSO Kyle Fowler said: "We encourage allotment holders and residents to mark their property in any way possible to ensure they are identifiable so any property found can be returned to its rightful owner."
