Friends of Sandall Park have been presented with The Queen’s Golden Jubilee Award for Outstanding Voluntary Service in the Community by the Lord-Lieutenant of South Yorkshire at Doncaster Mansion House.

Improvements introduced by the Friends group include numerous new benches, fitness and nature trails and a picnic area with wildlife information boards.

Civic Mayor Eva Hughes said: “The work of this group of dedicated volunteers is an example to us all of the regeneration that can be achieved for the benefit of the community.”

Sandra Crabtree, chair of Friends of Sandall Park, added: “This award is such an honour, it is the MBE for voluntary groups, we’d like to thank the Civic Mayor for organising a superb event befitting the occasion.”

A scroll was presented to the youngest and oldest members, Harrison Stokes, six, and Marianne Downing, 85.
