Palin tops city cabbie survey

Have your say

ONE of Sheffield’s most famous sons has topped a poll to find the city’s ideal taxi driver.

Traveller and actor Michael Palin fought off competition from Pulp singer Jarvis Cocker and Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner in the survey, carried out by Sheffield cab firm Mercury Taxis.

The poll also looked into taxi customers’ views and experiences, with the majority of respondents saying they would hand in anything found in the back of a cab which belonged to a previous passenger.

General manager Dermot Griffiths said: “We’d love to have Michael Palin as one of our drivers - he’s an excellent ambassador for Sheffield.”

Palin, who was born in Ranmoor and later performed with the Monty Python comedy troupe, celebrates his 69th birthday on Saturday.
