No soggy bottoms at Barnsley charity bake off

Staff and students raised over £300 for MacMillan Cancer Support and EnRich through The Great Barnsley College Charity Bake Off.

The event at a charity coffee morning was organised in memory of former head of music Richard Tolson, who passed away in September 2013.

Entries were judged according to taste, texture and appearance by Josie Whiteley, chair of the EnRich charity, the college’s assistant principal Dianne Murray and Dr John Foster, local baker and businessman.

The winning baker was Hayley Jenkins, who produced a Simply Red Velvet Cake.

Mr Foster said: “The overall standard of the cakes was very high with some particularly showing great innovation in their design and decoration.

“The winning entry was beautifully moist, looked fantastic and was well deserving of first place. It was a great event to be part of and one that has raised a significant amount for two very worthy causes.”

EnRich was set up in Richard Tolson’s memory and provides funding for the development of performing and creative arts in Barnsley.
