THERE were no deaths from house fires in South Yorkshire in December - for the first time in seven years.
Records show December is the highest risk month for accidental house fires and, since 2003, a total of 10 people have died in the county a December month.
Last year there was a 28 per cent drop in blazes - 23 compared to 32 in 2009.
Steve Makepeace, head of community safety for the fire service, said: "It is extremely encouraging to see our wide-ranging prevention work across the county is making a positive difference. I hope people will continue to heed our safety advice to keep themselves and their families safe throughout 2011."
