NEWS IN BRIEF: Rotary Club has an appetite for jazz

JAZZ-LOVERS can enjoy their favourite music in picturesque surroundings when the Drone Valley Rotary Club hosts a lunch at Ramshaw Lodge, Unstone, Derbyshire, on Sunday, May 27 from noon until 4pm.

The event will feature a performance from local band the New Orleans Strollers and proceeds will go to a rotary club campaign to eradicate Polio disease and other charities. Tickets are £9 for adults and £3 for children - call Vanessa Ellis on 01246 290450.

Peak hills appeal

CHARITY WaterAid is urging walkers to tackle the hills of the Peak District as part of a drive to raise £200,000 towards work to improve access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene in Nepal.

WaterAid 200 asks walkers to reach the top of 200 hills and mountains across the UK, including Kinder Scout and Bleaklow Head, on June 16.

Alternative laughs

COMEDIANS will take to the stage in a string of alternative nights. The Alternative Comedy Cabaret takes place at The Harley, Glossop Road, Sheffield, on the third Monday of every month from May 21. The event starts at 8pm and entry is £3 on the door.
