News In Brief: Free tickets to BBC Radio 1 music event

MUSIC lovers have until Thursday to register for one of 520 pairs of free tickets to an 'In New Music We Trust Live' dance event at The University of Sheffield Students' Union on Western Bank - which will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 1.

The gig, on Friday January 28 from 10pm to 5am, will feature DJs Pete Tong, Judge Jules, Annie Mac, Rob Da Bank and Kissy Sell Out. Log on to to apply.

Kitchen blaze

A KITCHEN in a house on Marshall Road, Woodseats, Sheffield, filled with smoke when a plastic container was left on the hob. Firefighters alerted to the incident said nobody was hurt. Firefighters were called to a house on Furness Avenue, Dore, after burning food in the microwave filled the kitchen with smoke. An elderly woman escaped unharmed.

Bin set alight

A BIN at the bottom of a rubbish chute leading from flats in Winn Close, Middlewood, caught fire in an accidental blaze, and a garage on Spa Well Crescent, Treeton, Rotherham, went up in flames in an arson attack. A Vauxhall Corsa found burning on Waltheof Road, Manor, had been deliberately set alight. Firefighters tackled all the blazes.
