FANCY a lazy day aboard a boat in the sunshine this weekend? The first public cruises take place this Saturday on a restored section of Chesterfield Canal after work was completed to build a new basin.

Chesterfield Canal Trust’s tripboat, The John Varley, will do a full day cruise starting at The Mill pub on Station Road at Brimington at 10am. Covering 10 miles, the trip will go through 10 locks, and there will be stops for refreshments. Tickets cost £20, or £15 for under 16s or over 60s. Call 01246 551 035 to book.

First Place for firm

A SHEFFIELD property group has been voted the UK’s Best Landlord. Places for People, which manages 3,000 social rented properties mostly at Norfolk Park, landed the RESI Award. The judges, made up of property industry experts, praised the group for its 24-hour call centre, repairs and maintenance team and for investing over £150m to improve its homes across the UK.

Charity challenge

A CHARITY which helps people in Sheffield and Derbyshire spend their final days in their own homes is asking supporters to raise an extra £20,012 in 2012. Helen’s Trust suggests a barbecue for Euro 2012, Pimms and cupcakes for the Olympics, or a tea party for the Diamond Jubilee. Call 01629 812 759.
