Library to close for refurbishment

Goldthorpe Library will be closed to the public for a programme of refurbishment from Monday, December 31, until Monday, February 4, next year.

Barnsley Connects will relocate into the library from its current office at Barnsley Road, Goldthorpe, and residents will still be able to access the full range of council services from one building.

Books can be borrowed or returned to any other library and no fines will be charged for items due back during the period.

Festive Food Fund

Families in Rotherham struggling over Christmas and New Year can avoid bad debt and loan sharks thanks to a special one-off loan to help pay for food.

Rotherham Council is loaning £80,000 to the town’s Laser Credit Union, which will administer interest-free crisis loans to the public specifically for food. Families will be able to borrow £100 and individuals £50, to be repaid interest-free at £5 a week from February. The Festive Food Fund is the idea of council leader Coun Roger Stone.

High praise indeed

THE Bishop of Sheffield Dr Steven Croft has praised the work of the Cathedral Archer Project supporting homeless and vulnerable people in the city. “The Cathedral Archer Project is there to help those who most need support every week of the year, year in and year out,” he said.
