AN OUTDOOR activities centre on the outskirts of Sheffield is under new management.
Underbank Outdoor Activity Centre, at Underbank Reservoir, near Stocksbridge, is owned by Yorkshire Water and has been operated by Sheffield Council on a 21-year lease since it was built in 1994.
It offers water and land-based activities for city schools and community and voluntary sector groups.
But with its lease due to end in 2014, the council worked with Yorkshire Water to secure the next phase of the centre’s future.
Now Peak Pursuits, a Staffordshire-based outdoors activity company, has identified the centre as a good location to expand beyond its current base in the south of the Peak District and is preparing to take over the council’s lease.
As part of the terms of the new agreement, schools and community groups will continue to use the centre.
Coun Isobel Bowler said: “I’m delighted an agreement has been reached with Peak Pursuits to run Underbank and offer future generations and local groups the chance to experience Sheffield’s great outdoors.”
