A new award recognising outstanding female radio journalism students has been set up in memory of a BBC Radio Sheffield presenter.

Jane Kitson, who died in January this year from a suspected heart attack, was also a former Sheffield Hallam University broadcast journalism lecturer.

In recognition of Jane’s commitment to encouraging women into radio, the university’s award was presented to Rachel Cummins.

Rachel was given the highest mark for her final year radio project which involved reporting, making packages and putting together speech-based radio programmes.

Her award was presented by Radio Sheffield’s Kate Linderholm. Jane’s parents, Margaret and Ronald Kitson, from Tinsley, were also at the ceremony.
