A NEW art gallery is set to be built at a country estate to house a set of historic works owned by an aristocratic family.
The gallery will be built on the Welbeck Estate in Worksop, displaying pieces from the Portland Collections, which consist of fine and decorative artworks kept by the Cavendish-Bentinck family.
The family has lived at Welbeck for more than 400 years, and is currently headed by William Parente, grandson of the 7th Duke of Portland.
Design firm Hugh Broughton Architects will be responsible for planning the layout of the gallery, which is set to provide 800 square metres of exhibition space.
Work on the site is expected to start next year and it is hoped the gallery will open to visitors in 2015.
