A new exhibition featuring images of famous poets has opened at Sheffield’s Graves Gallery.

Benjamin Zephaniah, Simon Armitage, Michael Rosen and Carol Ann Duffy are among the poets included in the touring display from the National Portrait Gallery.

The images in the Picture the Poet exhibition are taken by well-known photographers including Jemimah Kuhfeld, Norman McBeath and Donald McLellan, and provide an insight into the people who have crafted images for audiences’ imaginations out of words.

The portraits cover a variety of themes including sense of place, love, loss, identity and struggle, and include over six decades of artistic production from the 1950s to the present day.

Picture the Poet will be on display at Graves Gallery until November 29.
