A Sheffield library has begun a new chapter – run by a team of 30 volunteers working three hours a week.
A public open day was held at Woodhouse Library, which was saved from closure by the Woodhouse and District Community Forum which is keeping it open.
It is open three and a half days a week on Monday, Thursday, Friday and a half day on Saturday.
Project manager Kathryn Taylor said everyone had been trained but it was still a matter of being comfortable on the other side of the counter.
“Our borrowers seem to be really happy and we get people not only from Woodhouse but from Intake and Handsworth too,” she said.
“There are a lot of elderly here and the social aspect is important to them too.”
