HIS friends call him Bugsy – and boy can he boogie!

The Star featured a mystery dancer who busted some moves as a band busked on Fargate and how the group was now hoping to find him.

And thanks to our appeal the slick mover has been revealed as Ecclesfield dad-of-three Shaun Malone, known as Bugsy to his friends.

He came forward after his mum read the article in the paper and it is hoped he’ll join The New York Brass Band on stage next time.

Keen dancer Shaun, aged 50, said: “I’ve only just seen The Star – my mum spotted it and kept it for me. I’d love to meet the band again.”

A video of Shaun’s impromptu dancing showed him starting to throw shapes as the band played – and carrying on to cheering crowds despite losing his hat.

He said: “I had had a few drinks and heard this band playing – and thought I would have a dance. They were brilliant so I was really going for it. It was a real laugh, I had a great time.”

Shaun, of Tunwell Avenue, regularly dances on Fargate to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

He added: “I used to go to Northern Soul dance all-nighters – I’ve been a keen dancer since I was 14. I can dance to anything – punk, heavy rock, I’ve done tap dancing.”

Now The New York Brass Band has been invited to take part in the city’s Tramlines festival this summer – and could ask Shaun to perform.

Trumpet player James Lancaster said: “That’s brilliant that he has been found!

“Last night we were invited to take part in Tramlines so we’ll be able to talk about meeting him there and getting on stage together.”
