A MUSICAL visitor is coming to Sheffield from the city’s twin town in Nicaragua.
Lord Mayor, Coun Sylvia Dunkley, will give an official welcome to Jose Alberto Velasquez Rugama, from Esteli, on Thursday at the Town Hall at 11.30am.
Jose, a music teacher, is staying in Sheffield for two weeks. During his stay, Jose will play at an event on Freedom Road, Walkley, on Sunday, May 20. The street is holding a picnic from 1pm to 4pm, which includes a performance by Son de America, Sheffield’s Latin American Folk Dance group.
In the evening he will attend a Sheffield Esteli Society fundraising ceilidh from 7.30pm at the Broomspring Centre in Broomhall.
And he will also be available to give music workshops in local schools, accompanied by an interpreter.
Schools interested in hosting sessions can contact Coralie Hopwood, link officer at the Sheffield Esteli Society, by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
Sheffield has been twinned with Esteli for more than 25 years.
