BARNSLEY’S museum service is one of 10 nationwide to share in £3.6 million of Arts Council funding until 2015.
The 10 regional museums will partner with local schools, national museums and other organisations to raise the number of visits by schools in areas which currently have lower than average cultural engagement.
It is hoped the visits will spark youngsters’ curiosity and encourage a lifelong passion for culture and learning.
In Barnsley activities include cooking sessions inspired by the Dutch and Flemish old masters collections, sleepovers at Cannon Hall Museum, and takeover days where children will suggest how they would run Barnsley’s museums. The best ideas will be put into action.
