DONCASTER MP Rosie Winterton met Eurovision hopeful Engelbert Humperdinck and wished him ‘a night of success’ for Saturday.

Pop veteran Mr Humperdinck will be representing the UK at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, which will be held in Azerbaijan.

The two met at an event in Westminster - and Doncaster Central MP Ms Winterton told how she took the opportunity to wish the singer good luck in this weekend’s international contest.

Ms Winterton, who is a fan of the singer, said: “On behalf of everyone in Doncaster I wished Engelbert the best of luck.

“I hope the UK will be toasting a night of success on Saturday.”

The 75-year-old, dubbed the King of Romance, is best known for his 1967 hit Release Me, which kept The Beatles’ Strawberry Fields Forever off the number one spot.
