Library users will have the chance to attend a free event and talk with crime writers.
Barnsley’s library service will be attracting a number of local authors during 2013 through the Read Regional campaign.
The campaign promotes books by northern authors with events and talks in Yorkshire and Humberside and aims to reach both new and existing readers.
The first event will see Barnsley’s Central Library hosting a ‘Morning of Crime’.
The event takes place on Saturday, February 16, between 11am and 1pm.
Visitors will have the opportunity to meet, and listen to talks from, writers Mari Hannah and Russ Litten.
Mari, a former probation officer, is the author of two crime novels set in the North East and won the Northern Writers Award in 2010.
Russ Litten is a freelance writer and has written two gritty and fast-paced crime novels.
A Barnsley Council spokeswoman said: “Both authors will be speaking about and reading from their books and there will be a question and answer session at the end of the event.
“Books by both authors will be available to buy and have signed.
“Other authors will be visiting the area in March as part of the Read Regional project and there will be a poetry workshop during April.”
The Morning of Crime event is free to attend but places will be limited.
