IT’S not just St Luke’s Hospice friends and supporters who are signing up for the Starlight Walk - staff are putting their best feet forward too.

Following the lead set by the hospice’s inpatient nurses Di Stout and Marie Smith, colleagues are enrolling for the May 12 sponsored 5km walk from Endcliffe Park to Forge Dam and back, which takes place in the evening.

“We are delighted so many of our own team are joining the hundreds of people across the city who are joining us for our Starlight Walk,” said hospice head of fundraising Kathryn Burkitt.

“Last year we had around 1,000 people take part in our first Starlight Walk, and this year we want to see even more supporters taking part and breaking our fundraising record.

“It’s going to be a great evening for the whole family.”

The hospice’s first event last year raised an impressive £65,000. For the 2012 event, again backed by The Star, the hospice in Whirlow is set on raising more than £80,000.

The walk starts at sunset - 8.45pm - but entertainment in Endcliffe Park begins from 4pm, kicking off with a new 2k Mini Stars event, created especially for four to eight-year-olds.

Registration costs £15 per person or £10 per person for groups of six or more, while young people aged five to 15 can take part for £10. The Mini Stars event costs £5 per child.
