BARRATT Yorkshire West is helping Sheffield school pupils learn about new home design and planning with the donation of the scale model of Handsworth development, The Gateway.

Pupils from nearby Ballifield Primary School have taken delivery of the The Gateway model which was formerly used to showcase the development to prospective home-hunters.

These models are regularly donated to local pupils as a learning aid and object of interest. The firm decided to donate the model to a school at which the development’s families may have children now or in the future.

Lynne Walker of Ballifield Primary School said: “We were delighted to receive the detailed model of The Gateway and are looking forward to using it to support various curriculum after the summer holidays.”

Sales advisor Deborah Land said: “We work wherever possible to engage the communities in which we build our homes and one of the most popular ways is by teaming up with nearby schools. The children always enjoy learning about the developments and the models are exceptionally detailed, which they love.”

Barratt Homes is planning to start work on four new projects in Yorkshire during the next year, including 369 homes in Thurcroft, near Rotherham.

The new programme to underpin future growth follows an increase in sales to £80.9m across the region and legally completing 508 homes during the 12 months to June.

Sales director Sam Wood said: “Buyer confidence is steadily improving and we’re seeing encouraging demand for our homes. The fact that we are starting new sites is also good news for local sub-contractors and the supply chain. We continue to highly value the strong relationships we have with our partners in the build process.

“One of the key issues for anyone buying a home continues to be getting the right mortgage. NewBuy, the 95% mortgage backed by government, is only available on new-build homes, which means customers – both first-time buyers and home movers – only need a five per cent deposit.”
