X-Factor star Lucy Spraggan was the surprise guest at South Yorkshire’s road safety ‘Oscars’ ceremony held at Sheffield City Hall.
Lucy sang three songs and met many of the 130 secondary and special needs pupils who had been nominated for awards.
The winning schools were Horizon Community College and Shafton Advanced Learning Academy in Barnsley, and Sheffield’s Talbot Special and King Ecgbert schools.
As part of a drama project, students were asked to devise a production incorporating key road safety messages.
The pupils were then asked to perform their drama to fellow pupils in each year group at school.
Just like the real ceremony clips were shown to the audience of the nominations in each category with the winners being presented with their very own ‘Roscar’ statuette.
Sheffield City Council’s road safety team organised the event on behalf of the South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership.
Semi finalists from the Got to Dance TV show Urban Jokers performed a road safety inspired routine to start the show.
Rotherham’s rap artist Jay Fitz also presented his new song Arms of an Angel.
