GET ready for the jamboree!

Scouts from across South Yorkshire are preparing for a big adventure – travelling to Sweden for the World Scout Jamboree.

More than 35 of the region’s scouts have spent more than 18 months planning, raising funds and training for the event, which gives young people the chance to try hundreds of different activities.

Scout leader Susie Roach, from the South Yorkshire Unit, said: “Preparing for this jamboree has been a true journey. We’ve had several training camps and fundraising events, where the young people from all over the county have joined together to become a comprehensive team. Already they have discovered new friends and shared new experiences.”

The jamboree is the 22nd event of its type, and is being held in Kristianstad, Sweden.

It runs until August 7, after which the South Yorkshire youngsters will travel on to Switzerland, to visit the homes of Scouts there before returning to the UK.

Participants will also have the opportunity to try activities based on discovering cultures, the environment and global development issues.
