DONCASTER’S latest playing area has been opened with a coaching session with the Danum Eagles basketball squad.

Town Moor ward councillors Jane Kidd, Cliff Hampson and Patrick Wilson carried out an opening ceremony with speeches for the new multi-use games area at Shaftsbury Avenue in Intake.

The games area has been created following consultation with youngsters in the Intake area about what facilities they would like to be made available for them in their community.

Danum Eagles attended and delivered a basketball skills session at the new site, and Doncaster Rovers mascot Donny Dog also turned out for the opening.

As part of the event there were games and activities running in the nearby Intake Library Opportunity Centre on Montrose Avenue.

And stalls were set up, offering help and advice from a number of agencies including South Yorkshire Police, Doncaster Council, St Leger Homes, the fire service and the NHS as well as a number of voluntary sector and community groups.
