Literature rather than football will be the attraction at Rotherham United’s New York Stadium when the venue hosts a meeting of the International Jack Kerouac Convention.
The event is taking place on the weekend of July 6 and 7 - and organisers say tickets for the event have already been sold to people in the Netherlands and as far afield as the US.
Organiser Brian Clarke said: “There is more interest than ever in Kerouac at the moment. The iconic beat writer seems to have a whole new generation of fans who are discovering his work.”
The convention’s programme includes transforming the stadium into a ‘beat club from the late 1950s’ on the Saturday night, and a production of play ‘Beat Surrender’.
Tickets for the convention are at £ 15 for Saturday or Sunday, or £25 for the weekend, and available at Rotherham Civic Theatre.
