OLD stableyard buildings at a stately home are being transformed into community rooms, shops and a cafe.
A new visitor centre will be created at Hardwick Hall in the £6.6 million scheme.
Conservation charity, The National Trust has started work at the stately home near Chesterfield.
Currently the facilities are located inside the Elizabethan manor house itself.
The new buildings, which have been ‘carefully designed to incorporate sustainable and environmentally-friendly measures’ such as wood-burning stoves, open next spring.
The work is funded by lottery and Government grants.
