TALENTED Parkwood Academy athlete Darren Forde is a very happy 16-year-old.

Not only did he achieve a haul of GCSEs to be proud of yesterday but earlier this week he secured a two-year contract with Sheffield Eagles.

Darren lives just up the road from the impressive new school building in Shirecliffe with his mum Juliana.

“I got four As and A*s and the rest are Bs and Cs,” he told his beaming mum.

Mum Juliana said: “I’m so proud of what he has done.

“Both with his sporting and academic achievements.

“Earlier this year he was laid up with a terrible back injury but he struggled on with his studies and also his rugby and just look how well he has done.”

Darren, who has three older brothers, will continue his studies at All saints School.

He hopes to successfully complete A-levels in PE, biology and English Language.

In the meantime he intends to do as well as he can at his Rugby League.

“It’s hard work,” he confessed.

“But it’s a real opportunity and if I keep up as I have I think I can do both.”

Fellow Parkwood pupil Ahmed Moula, 16, gained a bagful of A*s and also passed his maths A-level - and even got a grade A.
